A Grid is a fully distributed, dynamically
reconfigurable, scalable and autonomous infrastructure to provide
location independent, pervasive, reliable, secure and efficient access
to a coordinated set of services encapsulating and virtualizing
resources (computing power, storage, instruments, data, etc.) in order
to generate knowledge. [Coregrid]
[PO-JRA-2.3.1] (1) Grid technology refers to decentralized computing where the processing power of many computers can be utilized to run a single task. (2) Grid technology is a concept in computing, which provides ubiquitous access to distributed computing information enabling collaboration on a global scale, and is a logical follow-up of the World Wide Web [INTEROP]. |

Generic (domain independent) |
A computational grid is a hardware and software infrastructure that provides dependable, consistent, pervasive, and inexpensive access to high-end computational capabilities [Foster et al, 1998]. |
