Call for Contributions: Software Process Improvement and Practice Special Issue: Processes used in the Development of Services Software

There are a growing number of companies developing and implementing services. Consequently, there is a parallel growth in the research which is being carried out into the development of service software. The effective and efficient development of service software requires the implementation of processes which may be similar to, but are often different from, software engineering processes.

The special issue, due to be published in early 2010, aims to discuss the software process challenges in the context of organizations that are developing software for services. The objective of this issue is to discuss how software processes and practices are, or potentially can be, applied, with a view to improving service software quality and productivity.

That may include, but is not limited to, the following topics relating specifically to services software development:
• Software development life-cycles for services;
• Engineering and design processes for services software
• Development and maintenance processes for services software;
• Modifications to software processes for use in software service development;
• Processes for the composition of software services and their adaptation;
• Management of software services project;
• Software process assessment and improvement for the development of software services;
• Training and development of personnel who will be developing services software.

Contributions to this issue should focus on software processes developed for or used by the services software community. We are also interested in research which discusses whether software engineering process models can be used when developing software for services. In their papers, authors should consider the typical characteristics of services software, rather than just describing the applicability of generic approaches to services development.
