The Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is a five level
maturity framework which outlines the key elements of an effective
software process. It describes in detail a staged evolutionary path to improve software
development from an ad hoc, immature process to a mature, optimised and
disciplined software development system. It provides a model for
the evaluation of an organisation’s current processes and
practices. CMM focuses on process as a way of empowering the
people doing the work. The underlying premise of the CMM is that the
quality of software produced is determined by the quality of the
process used to develop and maintain it. [SEI] |
